The History of Solar Kilns

Solar Kilns Managing Director, Greg Weir, is a second-generation Australian saw-miller and timber processor with over 38 years experience in the sawmill machinery industry.

Prior to the creation of Solar Kilns, Greg gained extensive experience in various large and small timber processing operations and Government organizations across Australia - mainly in the capacity of General Manager, Production Manager or freelance consultant. The years of experience, combined with Greg’s time as a production manager for a large timber drying kiln manufacturing company, gave him his insight into how the entire business of timer drying could be revolutionized.

Since that eureka moment Greg has dedicated his energy and knowledge to developing his company’s patented kiln drying technology and sawmill machinery. He is now poised to see it become the world leader in solar drying technology for materials including timber, food, fruit and other goods.

Under Greg’s direction, the company has grown from a kiln manufacturer in to an innovative technology company that has begun to lead the timber drying industry into a sustainable future.
