Greg Weir
(Managing Director / CEO)

Greg’s timber processing experience spans 35 years of full-time industry service plus many years as the son of a sawmiller-logging contractor.
Currently Greg is CEO of Solar Kilns and the parent company Australian Choice Timber Supplies P/L (ACTS).
He has a proven corporate management history and has been instrumental in building three of Australia’s most successful, dry, value-adding timber manufacturing operations. His previous management role involved responsibility for companies in two Australian states and included substantial capital works projects exceeding $20m at an Australian corporate sawmill site with an annual turnover of approximately $40m. This timber operation is now Australia’s largest and most technically advanced world-scale sawmilling and processing operation. Greg’s experience includes:
- Participating extensively as a consultant to a large hardwood value-adding operation in Australia.
- Consulting to a leading Australian government timber department on sawmilling and processing best-practice, and for sawlog-wood valuation assessments.
- Consulting to at least 50 Australian timber drying companies over the past 10 years.
- Conducting a significant joint research project with young eucalypts in conjunction with a leading Australian wood technology institution.
- Successfully building ACTS from start-up over the past 11 years.
- Inventing and developing the innovative solar kiln drying technology that is central to the success of this venture. This technology is expected to become a world leading, timber drying technology in the short term.
Mike Culling
C.Eng. M.I.E.T. Dip. E.E.
Mike obtained his qualifications in London, England and quickly moved to become a Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, and a Chartered Engineer. His early work was in Digital Electronics, and the emerging field of Microprocessors. Mike moved to Australia 30 years ago, where he headed a team developing an all Australian microprocessor controlled Industrial Robot, with substantial production sales to Ford Australia. He then established his own successful Industrial Electronics Company, designing and manufacturing Electrical Control Systems for Industrial Automation based on PLCs and Microprocessors. His latest Microprocessor design is our own low cost, high performance, Pro Kiln.
Christopher Weir
Construction Supervisor
Chris has been working in the timber Industry for 10 years. Over this time he has been intimately involved in product research and development and been active in over 45 kiln projects in Australia and overseas. Chris has drying, light engineering and kiln manufacturing, erection experience and is in charge of the kiln manufacturing operations of the company.
